#3. Off-the-road Tires


In this case, the selection of tire is based on the highest individual wheel load as determined by GVW (gross vehicle weight) distribution, taking into account the load transfer. Maximum loads on individual tires are to be determined by the vehicle manufacturer’s rated GVW assigned to each axle and divided by the number of tires for that axle. The load per tire shall not be greater than that specified in the data table, which also gives the corresponding inflation pressure for a specified maximum speed of operation. The maximum GVW is to include :

  1. Net weight of the vehicle (with standard equipment including maximum capacity fuel, oil, coolant plus driver weight).
  2. Accessory weight, i.e. installed production items not covered under (1).
  3. Optional equipment weight,  i.e. the net weight of the additional items or not a replacement for standard items such as cab, body liners, sideboards,  etc.
  4. Special order modifications, such as additional reinforcements not covered under (2) and (3).
  5. Tyre ballast, 1f any used.
  6. Field modifications for additional capacity, reinforcement, etc., made by those other than the original vehicle manufacturer, if permissible.
  7. Payload, i.e. the total weight of the material being carried.
